How to enable browser notifications for new messages

The article was updated on 20. 3. 2026.

Push notifications are short messages that pop up on your screen — even when you're not on the Flatio website. They let you know right away when a guest sends you a message, so you can respond quickly and never miss a booking opportunity.

Think of them like text message alerts, but from your browser. They work on computers, phones, and tablets.

How do push notifications work?

When you enable push notifications on Flatio, your browser registers your device so we can send you alerts. Each device needs to be set up separately — enabling notifications on your laptop won't automatically turn them on for your phone.

For notifications to work, two things need to be in place:

  1. Your browser or device allows notifications — this is a system-level setting
  2. You've enabled notifications on Flatio — this is done in your My Rentals notification settings

If notifications are blocked at the browser or device level, Flatio can't send them — even if you've turned them on in your settings. Follow the guide below for your browser and device to make sure everything is set up correctly.

Google Chrome (desktop)

Quick way:

  1. Make sure you're on the Flatio website (e.g. your My Rentals dashboard)
  2. Click the icon left of the URL bar (lock or info icon)
  3. Click Site settings
  4. Find Notifications and set it to Allow

Alternative (via Chrome settings):

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) → SettingsPrivacy and securitySite settingsNotifications
  2. Make sure "Sites can ask to send notifications" is turned on
  3. If Flatio appears under "Not allowed", click the three-dot menu next to it and select Allow

Google Chrome (Android)

Quick way:

  1. Open the Flatio website in Chrome
  2. Tap the lock icon left of the URL bar
  3. Tap Permissions
  4. Enable Notifications

You may also need to allow Chrome notifications in your Android system settings:

  1. Open your phone's SettingsAppsChromeNotifications
  2. Make sure notifications are enabled

Safari (Mac)

  1. Click Safari in the top menu bar → Settings (or Preferences) → WebsitesNotifications
  2. Find Flatio in the list and set it to Allow
  3. If Flatio isn't listed, visit the Flatio website and you'll be prompted to allow notifications

Also check your Mac's system settings:

  1. Open System SettingsNotifications
  2. Look for app.flatio.com (with a Safari icon) in the app list — it appears there after you allow notifications in Safari
  3. Make sure notifications for this entry are allowed — even if Safari has notifications enabled, they can be separately disabled here

iPhone and iPad (Safari, Chrome, Firefox)

Push notifications on iOS require iOS 16.4 or later and work through web apps added to your Home Screen. This applies to Safari, Chrome, and Firefox on iOS.

Step 1: Add Flatio to your Home Screen

  1. Open your browser and go to the Flatio website
  2. Tap the Share button:
    • In Safari with the address bar at the bottom: tap the three dots (⋯) menu, then Share
    • In Safari with the address bar at the top: tap the Share button (square with an arrow pointing up)
    • In Chrome: tap the three dots (⋯) menu, then Share
    • In Firefox: tap the three-line menu (☰), then Share
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen and confirm

Step 2: Enable notifications

  1. Open Flatio from your Home Screen — it will now work as a web app
  2. Go to your notification settings and tap Enable on this device
  3. When prompted, tap Allow

Important: Make sure you keep the Flatio web app on your Home Screen. If you remove it, notifications will stop working.

If you don't see the notification prompt, check your device settings:

  1. Open SettingsNotifications and find the Flatio web app to make sure notifications are allowed

Mozilla Firefox (desktop)

Quick way:

  1. Open the Flatio website in Firefox
  2. Click the icon left of the URL bar
  3. Click Connection secureMore informationPermissions
  4. Find Notifications, uncheck "Use Default" and select Allow

Alternative (via Firefox settings):

  1. Click the menu button (☰) → SettingsPrivacy & Security
  2. Scroll to Permissions → click Settings… next to Notifications
  3. Find Flatio, change status to Allow, click Save Changes

Microsoft Edge (desktop)

Quick way:

  1. Open the Flatio website in Edge
  2. Click the lock icon left of the URL bar
  3. Click Permissions for this site
  4. Set Notifications to Allow

Alternative (via Edge settings):

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) → SettingsCookies and site permissionsNotifications
  2. If Flatio appears under "Block", click the three-dot menu next to it and select Allow

Windows notification settings

If you've allowed notifications in your browser but still don't see them, check your Windows settings:

  1. Open SettingsSystemNotifications
  2. Make sure Notifications are turned on
  3. Scroll down, find your browser in the app list, and make sure it's enabled
  4. If you use Focus Assist (or Do Not Disturb), check that it's not silencing your alerts

Still not working?

If you've followed the steps above and notifications still aren't coming through, try these:

  • Refresh the page — after changing browser settings, reload the Flatio website
  • Clear site data — in your browser settings, clear cookies and site data for Flatio, then re-enable notifications
  • Check your ad blocker — some ad blockers or privacy extensions can interfere with notifications. Try disabling them temporarily for Flatio
  • Restart your browser — close all browser windows and reopen
